Customs Specialist AMS

  • Prior hand’s on experience (or equivalent) in handling the customs clearance activity
  • Ability to handle multiple activities
  • Solid knowledge of import/export procedures

Your tasks

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Customs Specialist to join our team and manage the compliance and regulatory aspects of our import/export operations within the Americas. This role involves overseeing the customs clearance process, ensuring timely and accurate filings, and supporting the company in maintaining compliance with regional trade laws and regulations across multiple countries in the Americas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage customs compliance and ensure accurate documentation for all import/export shipments in the Americas.
  • Liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and internal departments to ensure smooth and efficient customs clearance processes.
  • Stay up to date on changes to customs regulations, tariffs, and trade policies across North, Central, and South America.
  • Review and classify goods in accordance with customs regulations to ensure correct tariff codes are used.
  • Work with internal teams to monitor and manage customs duties, taxes, and fees for import/export shipments.
  • Address customs-related inquiries, discrepancies, or issues, and resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records for all customs documentation and ensure proper filing.
  • Provide support to other departments in navigating customs requirements and trade compliance.
  • Collaborate with regional teams to implement best practices and improve the efficiency of customs processes.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of international trade regulations, customs laws, and compliance requirements in the Americas region.
  • Experience working with customs clearance systems, tariff codes.
  • Familiarity with import/export documentation, HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) codes, and rules of origin.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy in documentation and filings.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to address customs-related issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams and external authorities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Advanced with MS Office Suite
  • Relevant certifications are a plus but not required.
